On The Outs

DIRECTED BY: Lori Silverbush & Michael Skolnik
CAST: Anny Mariano, Judy Marte, Paola Mendoza

Living in the inner city, the normal highs and lows of a teenage girl's life are amplified to the nth degree. The pressure of peers, boys, drugs and family are heightened in a world that makes its own rules--and turns teens into adults before their time. This dramatic narrative follows the lives of three girls from the same Jersey City neighborhood who live parallel, yet very different lives. Oz, 17, is a street-respected drug dealer who struggles to keep her family intact. Suzette, the sheltered 15 year-old, has a first crush that will change her life. And Marisol, 17, is a single mother who simultaneously fights her own demons and the uncompromising world of foster care. Based on the real stories of girls from the streets and juvenile jail who lent their unique voices to the filmmakers, "On the Outs," is a riveting look at the lives of girls in the Inner City. Winner of the Audience & Jury Awards at Slamdance. Official Selections at the Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals. Nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.
