Henry Pincus was born in New York City and graduated from Columbia University. After trying various jobs, he moved to Los Angeles in 1996. Shortly afterward, he sold a screenplay to Paramount Pictures. After that, he endured eight years of development hell, in which he wrote screenplays and teleplays for major studios, independent film companies and television studios before making You Are Here.
